The project mandate was to showcase ESD good practices across India, be it via school programmes or programmes undertaken by organisation/ s with a commitment towards green causes. The scope of work was all encompassing, a start-to-finish: Tracking down and researching landmark countrywide ESD initiatives, culling out and writing stories on it, and finally, creating a document for UNESCO, Paris highlighting the unique ESD good practices. An extremely inspirational, high impact, and informational project, the selected five wonderful journeys traced, through the protagonists’ work, the tremendous impact ESD made not just on empowering the protagonist but also producing behavioural changes in the community towards their natural surroundings. The final report serve as a defining reference point for all who seek to be informed about the power of ESD in creating a sustainable future for mankind.
The project was placed in the context of UNESCO’s plan to build momentum for Education for Sustainable Development towards the UNESCO World Conference on ESD in November 2014 in Japan, UNESCO through a series of well-written, journalistic stories on ESD initiatives.
Inputs were taken from all stakeholders – organisation heads, trainers for the ESD workshops, teachers, parents and friends. Innumerable pictures and videos of ESD workshops were sifted through and the selections frozen to make the story a part of the final creatively developed report, housing the five heart-warming stories sent to UNESCO and shared with all stakeholders.
UNESCO, the six young personalities and the organisations - Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Centre for Environment Education (CEE), The Energy Research Institute (TERI), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF, and Dusty Foot Production & Go Wild Hoolock Gibbon Eco Club were the valued project partners.
