Thematic Sessions on “Climate Change and Chennai City”

For city dwellers, the most important environment problem is of municipal solid waste. There are two routes to manage this — heating waste to produce energy, or digesting the organic waste to produce methane (biomethanation). The panel discussed such and more issues at the session. The session was moderated by Mr S Gopikrishna Warrier, Regional Environment Manager, Panos South Asia and Secretary of Forum for Environmental Journalist in India (FEJI) and the speakers were A. S. Panneerselvan, Advisor to the Executive Director, Panos South Asia; Dr K. S. Kavi Kumar, Professor, Madras School of Economics; Shaju John, Environment Photographer and Dr C Thomson Jacob, National Biodiversity Authority.
